Newsletter UTM Builder

Build tracking links that show up correctly in Google Analytics — one at a time, or every link in an issue at once.

Mode

Where the link lives. For your own newsletter: "newsletter" or its name.

The channel. Use "email" so GA4 groups it as Email traffic.

Which send or promotion, e.g. "2026-11-weekly" or "fall_sale".

Mostly for paid search keywords. Usually blank for newsletters.

Tell links apart in the same email, e.g. "header_cta" vs "footer_link".

    What this builder does differently

    • Keeps your existing query string intact. Parameters already in your URL (like ?ref=abc) are left exactly as you wrote them.
    • Keeps #anchors working. The fragment stays at the end, where browsers expect it.
    • Encodes values correctly. Characters like &, =, ? and # in a value are percent-encoded so they can't break the link.
    • Blocks unsafe links. Only http:// and https:// destinations are accepted.
    • Tags a whole issue at once. Paste every link from your newsletter and copy them all back.

    Naming tips

    • Pick one convention and stick to it. Newsletter and newsletter show up as two different sources in GA4.
    • Avoid spaces. Underscores or hyphens are easier to read in reports.
    • Don't tag links between pages on your own site — it can overwrite the real source of the visit.
